- In 1989 a joint effort was made by 33 individuals to establish an animal welfare society in Rhodes. It was officially founded in march 1990. The founding of the Society was the direct results of Jytte Andersons twenty years of work with stray animals on the island, both as a private citizen and as a representative of the Hellenic Animal Welfare Society of Athens.
